Sitting Cabinet

2022
“A while ago, I came across some old pine planks I had set aside for a project years before, which in the end never came to be. They must have been cut decades ago, collecting dust ever since. After I had planed the first piece, I discovered that in some places the wood was already veined with grey discolourations. What I also found, were plenty of fine cracks following the wooden grain and within its knots.

I did not want to disregard this wood, however, as I am sure many would. Its beauty spoke to me and so I decided to turn it into a cabinet, treating it with special care in its design and making. Only, once it was finished, the space on the wall where it was intended to go was no longer empty. For the third time, it seemed as if the wood was unwanted, had lost its place and function. So, I decided to offer it a seat instead.”
