Paradox of the Heap/Cloud as Metaphor

The paradox of the heap or "sorites paradox" contemplates on the semantic dilemma of what it takes for a thing or phenomenon to be recognised as such. It reveals the fragility of language with a simple mental image, by drawing attention to the underlying mental concepts of nomenclature.
To investigate the relevance of such philosophical questioning and to go one step further, this mental image was materialised, photographed and made into a flip book, thereafter inspiring the short video “Cloud as Metaphor”. Both outcomes deal with the human construction of analogue and digital reality: how can we assert meaning with confidence, knowing – or not knowing – about the complexity of everything we encounter?
